Bodega Agustin Cubero
In 1881, Agustin Cubero founded the Bodegas Agustin Cubero in the small municipality of Godojos, in the province of Zaragoza, about 70 kilometres southwest of Zaragoza. No one would have thought at the time that this tradition of high-quality viticulture would continue into the 21st century.
At the beginning, the bodegas was very small. Wine was only grown for local needs. It was not until 1953 that his grandson expanded and modernised the bodegas so that he could market his wines nationally.
Since 1997, the bodegas has been located on the outskirts of Calatayud, where today the 5th generation family still continues the passion for quality wines at affordable prices. Here, the wines mature in steel tanks and French and American oak barrels.
The family's vineyards have a total size of about 87 hectares. Macabeo grapes account for about 15 hectares of this. Approximately 56 hectares are divided between Tempranillo and Syrah. The vineyards are up to 80 years old.
The yields of wine at Bodegas Agustin Cubero are deliberately kept small. The grapes are harvested and selected by hand. The wine is then fermented using autochthonous yeasts from the vineyards.
